".....The "Roman Empire" continues to expand with branches in Sandymount and Dundrum opening in the last twelve months. We prefer the original (fewer pushchairs) which by now must have the indentations of our elbows on the counter top. You see copies of D&C's simple rustic dishes all over town but, try as they might, the imitators always fall short..."
Talkin' Italian
Food & Wine
June 2005

"A reader boasts: "Having lived in Italy it was a treat to find an Italian food and wine in typically Italian surroundings." Owner Eileen Dunne describes it merely as a "typical Italian enoteca, where you can have a glass of wine or antipasti all day." That modest description does not do justice to this cheap, unpretentious winner - really two restaurants on the same street - where staff are beautifull / nonchalant and the customers are a mixture of Trinity students, tourists, actors and struggling writers. Great bruschetta, salads and fine bresaola with rocket and parmesan. At night D&C feels a bit more grown up, and last orders have been pushed back to the more civilised time of 11pm. When you leave, buy some of the food and drink that line the walls of this lovely homage to la dolce vita."

"...The original Emporium, D&C on the South Frederick Street has long been one of the best places to get great, soulful Italian food in Dublin. But the move recently to serving excellently conceived and executed pasta dishes as well as the antipasti plates, makes D&C even morte vital. The reason for the couple's success can be summed up by remembering what Stefano Crescenzi told Elizabeth Field in a profile written by Ms. Field for the Irish Times, back in 2001. Italian cooking, he said, was simply "happy food. Understanding that helps D&C to have happy customers, people who value the fact that there is nothing precious or stuffy about what you eat at D&C, and the energy of the room created by seriously cool staff is totally winning . D&C makes for happy food, happy people, empty plates
